Description

This bill would have voided New Mexico’s efforts to reduce carbon pollution by prohibiting rulemaking on greenhouse gas emissions in the absence of federal requirements and restricting state standards to be no more stringent than federal law. Furthermore, HB579 would have undermined the growth of the renewable energy industry in New Mexico by prohibiting enforcement of existing state carbon pollution rules.

Outcome

HB579 died in the House Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
