Description
Recent court rulings have gutted clean water legislation adopted by Congress in the 1970s, stripping protections for numerous wetlands, streams, rivers, lakes, and other waters historically covered – which includes up to 90% of New Mexico’s waters. SM 46 seeks to keep these waters unprotected from polluters – by opposing the Clean Water Restoration Act of 2007, which restores the protections intended by Congress in 1972.
Outcome
Defeated in the Senate.
