Description
SB 89 would have required the Interstate Stream Commission (ISC) to focus $82 million in federal Arizona Water Settlements Act funding on water supply projects, like water conservation, watershed improvement, and new infrastructure to help meet water supply demands in the southwest water planning region. This measure also represented a positive step towards protecting New Mexico’s Gila River, the last free-flowing river, from a large-scale diversion.
Outcome
SB 89 was defeated in the Senate Conservation Committee.
