Description

HB543 would have authorized the Governor to enter into interstate compacts for endangered species management, without any public input or involvement before the compact is signed. Many of the advantages that were sought by the legislation are already available through the current Endangered Species Act implementation. The only effect of the legislation would have been to undermine federal jurisdiction over threatened and endangered species.

Outcome

HB543 died in the House Judiciary Committee.
